Homemade Projector Screen – The Principle & How to DIY

By Jacklyn Chen Projector screens are generally divided into two types base on their functionalities: reflection projector screen and transmission projector screen. It can be also divided into soft and hard screen base on the materials they are made from. Home theater generally uses soft reflection screen. My brother-in-law originally wanted to buy a 1000 (~$150) so-called “import screen”, but a friend of his who sells projector screens told him that it is hard nowadays (in China) to distinguish the genuineness of an import screen, it is hard even for himself. Some of them that are labeled with ‘import’ or ‘joint capital’ were actually manufactured somewhere in the south of China. He felt that he’d rather to buy a 300 domestically manufactured screen with good feelings than buy this kind of “import screen”. What this friend said makes perfect sense. But after doing some research, my brother-in-law found that all screens on the local market are made from high gain Bolivian bead that is used for projecting newspaper clips, they are simply not suitable for video frequency. Theoretically speaking, a white wall with one smooth side actually is the best “screen”. Because its gain is 1, meaning that the light projected can be completely reflected out, which is an ideal state of being “no absorption, no gain”. Unfortunately, for the purpose of absorbing and proliferating the sound wave, he already made the wall a background wall with sound-absorbing material and plywood installed. making it impossible to serve as a “projector screen’, he had to find another solution. You might be wondering at this point: why do people still bother purchasing expensive screens if we can all use white walls? Well, there are always benefits and advantages of using a professional screen: convenient, artistically beautiful and dignified, good screen can also make up the insufficiency of a projector and improve visual effect. Among the expensive screens, one type is “gray screen” (cost about 15,000, roughly $2000). This kind of screen probably was originally designed for liquid crystal projectors. The biggest problem with liquid crystal projector is that the color appears dark and grey, insufficiently calm. This is its “congenital defect” that is caused by its liquid crystal board and path of rays. Regarding gray screen, we all know that gray is merely a lighter black, and black absorbs all visible light. Gray can only partially absorb visible light, it is like brightness of the picture is reduced. If you have used any picture processing software’s “brightness / contrast gradient” option, you should certainly have noticed such phenomenon that reducing brightness is equivalent to increasing contrast gradient? Same concept, since the brightness has been reduced, it in turn increased its contrast gradient. The black effect gets improved due to the bigger contrast. We can also experience the same effect when we look out through the sunshade glass of our car. In fact, there are many ways to just reduce the brightness, you don’t have to use gray screen. There are magazines recommending putting the light gray filter of a photographic camera to the projection lens, the principle is the same. You can even use more simpler method, namely you need to adjust the projector’s output brightness or increase the contrast gradient. No need to spend a cent, you may achieve the similar effect, but the premise is that showroom must be dark enough. Back to the bottom line, if a gray projector screen cost you $2000, definitely it is not just because the screen color is changed from white to gray. Speaking from the optical principle, I’m afraid there’s a lot more behind. I’m guessing probably certain chemical compositions have been added to the material of the screen that changed the reflection or absorption intensity of different wavelength of light, thus changed the luster and the contrast gradient of the entire image, that, makes up the inborn flaw of liquid crystal board after all. In addition to this, what other tricks do you think they can play? It doesn’t seem to be possible with the meager knowledge of physics that I have. It sounds more like it to throw in a 150,000 screen if your projector cost you 15,000. But adding a 15,000 screen to a 15,000 projector doesn’t make much sense at all. If I have to buy a 15,000 screen, then it would simply work better if I put the money together and buy a 30,000 higher level projector to achieve better effect without any extra effort. A 15,000 screen is a crazy price to my brother-in-law (imagine his monthly income is merely 3000). Also if he buys a name brand Japanese gray screen, then he actually spend most of the money to pay for the labor which he personally doesn’t feel comfortable. The ideal screen for the DLP projector that my brother-in-law purchased should be like a white wall, just let the project light reflected completely without any “reservation”. He figured that he really didn’t need such costly screen. So he finally decided to make one on his own. Exactly how did he do it? You may not believe how simple and inexpensive it really was! He spent a bit over 10 (about $1.50) in a home decorating store on a self-adhesive pure white matted formica PVC panel with dim grains, cut the right size, pasted to his original background wall, that is it, flat and smooth! With such PVC screen, he doesn’t need to worry about the ‘curl-up’ phenomenon that may occur to a regular projector screen after around 12 years of use, he also doesn’t need to worry that it would turn yellow one day due to natural oxidation. But remember it requires some pasting techniques to make it work perfectly for you. The result? Great! Here are couple of self-made projector screen photos from my brother-in-law as ‘evidence’: www.news-blogs.com/_images/entertainment/diy_screen.jpg www.news-blogs.com/_images/entertainment/diy_screen2.jpg Note: You may freely republish this recipe as long as author bio and active hyperlinks are kept intact. Follow Your Strategy

By Adam Urbanski Did you know that most solo-professionals hire the Cheshire Cat as their marketing consultant? Frankly thats the only conclusion I can come up with watching so many excited entrepreneurs eager to build a great business but ending up overwhelmed by too much information and frustrated by their lack of good results. Remember Alice in the Wonderland facing a fork in the road and asking the Cheshire Cat for directions? More importantly remember the cats answer? If you dont know where you are going what doesnt matter which road you take? I call this lack of clarity and not having a master marketing action plan a hop and drop strategy. Have you ever seen a rabbit running away? Those creatures cant seem to run straight. They change directions with every hop! What does this have to do with your business? See if this sounds familiar: Monday you read an article about attracting more clients with info-products. So off you go, spending most of the day brainstorming ideas and planning your first ebook or audio CD. Tuesday you remember that submitting articles is a great way to build visibility. After a few hours of searching the net youve got a great list of article submission sites. Now you are ready to write your first few articles. But its late in the day so you set your intentions to start fresh the next morning. Wednesday you wake up with a brilliant idea to put together a new training program. Oh, this is going to be so great! People will be lining up to sign up. Maybe you could sell a license to others who could teach it. Yep! Easy money. You can already taste it. So you get busy developing a curriculum for your program, but mid-day you realize it going to take a bit more effort than you initially thought… Thursday and Friday dont look much different. A whole week of perfect hop and drop and at the end youve accomplished NOTHING! NADA! ZIP! Even though each of the tasks you began could have paid off handsomely if you stayed with it long enough, all youve got is a bunch of started projects, a lot frustration, feeling overwhelmed, and a massive headache! Fortunately, outlining and following a master strategy before jumping into action can save you from wasting time and effort, and eliminate of lot of frustration. Here are a few tips to get you started: 1. Understand the difference between strategy, tactic, and action steps. For example, driving new business through networking is a strategy. Putting together your own networking group or attending meetings of other groups are tactics. Making a list of local groups, developing a good Audio Business Card, writing a pleasure meeting you card or sending out an article or audio CD afterwards are all action steps. 2. Develop clear objectives. What exactly do you want to accomplish? Identify your goals, time-frames, investment of time and many required to implement your strategy, and the implementation model youll follow. Calculate your possible maximum and minimum return on investment of time, money and effort. These are all critical elements and skipping just one of them may take you on a never-ending chase after a white elephant! For example, one simple exercise I reveal in my Marketing Action Plan reveals if your existing model can even support your desired financial results. Most people never stop to take a look at this and end up beating their heads against the wall wondering why they cant generate better results. 3. Identify your implementation tactics. There are thousands of things you could be doing right now. You probably already have more ideas than you can implement. Thats why you often end up overwhelmed. Make a list of things you could be doing, than select your top three to five things and IMPLEMENT THEM COMPLETELY – ONE AT A TIME! OK, STOP HERE for a moment and re-read this last sentence. Read it a few times until it sinks in how vital it is to your success. FINISH ONE THING AT A TIME! 4. Take action. One mediocre and poorly implemented idea is better than 100 brilliant ideas still locked in your head! Implementation beats perfection any day of the week. Based on your desired results identify specific action steps that will be most effective in achieving your goals. Look for activities that will bring the biggest payoff for the least amount of effort. Start small and focus on quick implementation and completion! 5. Set milestones and measure your progress. How will you know you are getting closer to your goal? How will you know you are there when you arrive? In your plan identify ways to measure your progress then check the reality against your plan at least weekly. If you are not moving forward as fast as planned go back and re-evaluate your tactics and action steps. Then refocus on taking the right action again. So stop this hop and drop nonsense. Tell the Cheshire Cat to go pound sand, and quickly get the results you want following your own personal marketing action plan. 2006 Marketing Mentors. All Rights Reserved. Vagus Nerve Stimulation: What are the Benefits and How Does It Relieve Depression?

By Charles Donovan Vagus nerve stimulation is more effective than antidepressants and is not related to brain surgery or shock treatments. It is a 60-90 minute out-patient procedure, with robust antidepressant affects on the brain. The implant procedure is performed by a surgeon. A pacemaker-like device is implanted in your upper left chest. One lead wire is tunneled underneath your skin and coiled around the left vagus nerve in your neck. The vagus nerve has a direct pathway to hypothalmus and hippocampus in the brain. The implanted generator is programmed to send impulses to the vagus nerve. Stimulating the vagus nerve has been proven to favorably modulate those areas of the brain responsible for mood and depression. There are no pain fibers in the vagus nerve. The patient in the first few weeks after implant, slight voice alteration when the generator sends impulses to the nerve. The nerve gets used to the stimulation and the side effects, if any, disipate over time. This is a therapy for for patients who suffer from chronic or treatment-resistant depression, for which antidepressants drugs have not adequately relieved their depression. The FDA’s Medical Devices Panel approved vagus nerve stimulation therapy. Final approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is expected by the end of June. Chess Rules for Kids and Beginners

By Eriani Doyel If you or your kids want to learn chess rules so that you can start to play one of the greatest games ever invented, you may be intimidated if you try to read a book or manual of instructions. There are many so many different strategies in chess that you may be overwhelmed. Really all you need to know to get started are the chess rules basics. Once you learn how to set up the board, how to move the pieces and what the object of the game is, you can start to play. Here are some chess rules to get you started: 1. The chess board: The board has 8 rows of 8 squares which alternate between black and white (or light and dark) colored squares. To begin according to chess rules, the pieces are in two rows right in front of each player on opposite sides of the board. 2. The pieces: pieces are called white or black because of traditional chess rules, but they can be any color. Each player has 8 pawns, 2 rooks (castles), 2 knights (horses), 2 bishops, 1 queen and 1 king. The pawns are in the front row and the rooks, knights, bishops, and the king and queen are on the back row. 3. How the pieces move in chess rules: Pawns: They can move straight forward two squares for their first move and forward one square every time after that. If they are going to capture the other players piece they can move forward diagonally one square to the left or right. Rooks: They can move straight forward, backwards or sideways, but they cannot jump over a piece. Knights: One of the trickier chess rules is how the knights move. They can move two spaces forward and one space to the left or right-kind of like an L. Bishops: The bishops can move diagonally across the board but they cannot jump pieces. Queen: The queen can move forward, backwards, or side to side, but she cannot jump any pieces. King: The king can move one space in any direction: forward, backwards, side to side or diagonally. The object of the game is to protect your own king and to capture the other players king. You will also want to capture as many of the other players pieces as possible. Once you learn and understand the basic rules, you can learn the harder strategies and rules. Eriani Doyel writes articles about Home and Family and Hobbies. Finding Your Ideal Mate(1)- Key Things to Avoid

By Elaine Sihera At this competitive time in our lives, when the demographics are skewed towards women living a very long life, with an acute shortage of men in the later years, it might look as though eligible partners are thin on the ground. But it really depends on where you look for your ideal mate. There is more than one partner for each of us, if we are willing to change our attitude, to let people reveal themselves to us and are less prescriptive in what we want. If we are only interested in blondes, we immediately rule out women of all other hair colours who may carry the same characteristics as blondes, yet who might need nothing more than a colouring shampoo to complete the picture! We will always have types of people we prefer, but the more limited the parameters, the narrower the choice and the more difficult these people are to discover. Finding romance is no different from any other aspect of our life. We have to take the responsibility for making it happen, alongside realistic expectations. We are all after perfection in our partners, in some form or other, always forgetting that we are far from perfect to the other party and so any perfect match will be difficult to attain. Nevertheless, to make a start on that ideal relationship, you must develop a plan of action. Sitting at home waiting for the person to come to you will yield nothing because they do not know where you live! And you might be dead set against any commitment too. This word commitment, by the way, seems to strike fear in the hearts of men, in particular, and prevent many relationships. As one psychologist said, Many folks are very sincere about their desires to be involved with another person, but are not committed to making it happen. Sincerity is an attitude, while commitment is an action. Sincerity without action does not make anything happen. Yes, indeed. But with commitment coming toward the top of the desired list of all marriage qualities, it demonstrates beyond a doubt that one cannot have a successful relationship without some form of commitment. Make Space in Your Home for Partner Some people also believe that luck and romance go together. They just have to sit tight in their living rooms and their knight in shining armour will ride by and sweep them up side-saddle. But the right person for us is hardly connected with luck, a concept which merely maintains the illusion that we have no power to affect our fate; that we are helpless bystanders in the game of life. Being attracted to people on a PIE level (physical, intellectual and emotional) means that luck plays little part in it. We would expect to feel the first stirrings of love when we meet this person who strongly matches our PIE requirements. People who search for a partner while they hope for the best, without any real conviction regarding their own personal appeal, have little chance of winning because it is they who have to set the pace and the course for success. On the practical side, Feng Shui experts advise that, if you want to attract a new romantic partner or to move a casual relationship closer to commitment make sure there is space for that person in your home, especially in the bedroom. Look at your wardrobes, shelves and dressing tables. If they are all filled to capacity with your own stuff, clearing some room for your current or future partner needs to be made a priority. One expert advises, Aim to free up 25 per cent of the space in your bedroom for someone elses things. When you are finished, take a moment to visualise your loved ones belongings finding a home there. Additionally, remove old relationship energy. Go through your home especially your bedroom and remove anything that reminds you of past failed relationships. This could be an ex-boyfriends old sweater, photographs of you with a previous partner, a gift that reminds you (unfavourably) of a giver with whom you are no longer in love anything that reminds you of a love that went badly. You are advised, No matter how incurable a romantic you may be, do not keep old love letters anywhere in your bedroom, unless they are from someone with whom you are still blissfully paired up. Bottled Water Dispensers

By Elizabeth Morgan Bottled water dispensers are available on the market in two basic models, freestanding dispersers and the counter top dispensers. These bottled water dispensers are large and easy to use. They have push button faucets and removable drip trays for easy cleaning. Most of these dispensers have child resistant hot water faucet and come with a limited warranty. Freestanding bottle water dispensers are available in three varieties. The dispensers can be cold units, which can dispense only cold water; hot and cold units that can dispense both hot and cold water; and the latest variety of units that can dispense, hot water, cold water, water at room temperature. They have separate faucets for each of these operations. Bottled water dispensers are an excellent choice for homeowners, who prefer to own and not rent a water dispenser. Currently available are also the terra cotta models, stone ware and mini coolers with hot and cold faucets. All the customer needs is to buy 5 gallon bottles or fill them up at home if a purifier is available. These dispensers are also available in the portable or counter top models. One major disadvantage with the bottled water dispenser is the maintenance. In the event the water cooler is not in regular use, or during summer months when the temperatures are higher, the clear fresh taste of bottled water might be difficult to achieve. Proper care of the bottled water and of the dispensers has to be a priority. It is advised to store the full bottles at a constant temperature and, if possible, in a cool area. This discourages the expansion and contraction of the bottles that can draw microscopic material into the bottles. This also helps in preventing the growth of algae. The person changing the bottle must wash the hands and wipe the top and neck of the new bottle with a clean sterile cloth. Bottled water dispensers must be cleaned at least once a month by removing the empty water bottle and adding 1 tablespoon of bleach to the water reservoir. Add sufficient cold water from the tap to let the bleach fill the tubing between the reservoir and tap and let the bleach solution stand for 5-10 minutes. A small brush cloth or sponge can be used to clean the reservoir. Add several cups of fresh bottled water to flush out the bleach completely. Bottled Water provides detailed information about bottled water, bottled water brands, and more. Bottled Water is affiliated with Traditional Mediterranean Diet. 10 Ways to Speed-Up Your Job Search Effort

By Dee Davis Today everyone knows at least one person who has lost their job to down-sizing, right-sizing, cut-backs, production reduction or a mean, vicious bogus leader who could care less about your family, your life or your existence at the company. This may sound a bit overboard, but everyone has probably experienced the manager, supervisor or company leader from hell, and if you havent just stick around. It is this type of leadership that is taking companies down the path of death and destruction. So whats a jobless person to do? First you must get organized and do a serious self examination. Look at the things you love to do, your gifts and talents. This is not fluff, you may be at the best time of your life if you are willing to get real and do some serious work. You cannot expect others to do this for you, you have to own the unemployment label, and decide where you want to go from here. Leave the pity party for later. Do you have a charismatic personality? Have you ever done sales? Cant live knowing that your life depends on you getting a commission? Try it. Yes, thats easy for me to say, but nothing ventured nothing gained and you should always have more faith in yourself than a bogus leader. It is unfair and foolish for employees today to think that their employer should always have their best interest in mind when planning company growth and expansion. The company leadership is looking out for the bottom line and thats all. In a perfect world they would care about workers, but this is not a perfect world its a global economy and its all about the Benjamins. Here are 10 things you must do before starting your job search: 1. Do an honest in-depth evaluation of your job skills. Take a serious look at your management, financial, communication, research and computer skills. 2. List all those transferable skills, for example, auditing, appraising, recruiting troubleshooting and organizing, and all those task that fit under the umbrella labeled other duties as directed. 3. When writing your resumes select your words carefully. Use only strong, positive points that are relevant to the job you are seeking. 4. Use skill titles and job headings that match the job you want. Unrelated job titles are a sure indication that you do not have knowledge about the position. 5. Consider doing contractual work. Just consider it. 6. Practice your interviewing skills before the actual interview, and master the one important aspect of nonverbal communicationeye contact. 7. Consider taking a job in an area outside your comfort zone. You might like it. 8. Remember to speak with those folks willing to act as a reference. Never assume that they will say positive things about you, call them and make sure your relationship is still sound. 9. Never email a cover letter as an attachment without a signature. Those cover letters without signatures are often the ones eliminated first. Use a scanner or email from a copy store i.e. Kinkos that will allow you to scan your signature and send a signed cover letter. 10. Keep track of all those positions you are applying for and make sure the people living with you are aware you are applying for positions so they answer the telephone with style and grace. You are a representation of the type of home your come from, so remind everyone to be professional. To learn more about bogus leaders visit http://www.paraview.com/features/bogus_leadership.htm . D. Mobile Phone Deals – Deals You Cant Miss…

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Carlo_Janee]Carlo Janee The mobile phone industry is an ever growing industry. With the passing phase of time mobile phones have turned out to be one of the best modes of getting connected to anyone, anywhere and at any point of time. Whether its your family members or your friends or even your business associates, you are just a touch away. And today these mobile phones are no longer your personal gadgets to make or receive calls, they are more than that. Adding a new equation to your usage of mobile phones, these phones are gifted with excellent features like the music player, high resolution integrated cameras, connectivity etc. Todays mobile phones are an apt combination of style and technology and to build an impact on the end users various mobile phone manufacturers along with leading network providers are coming up with various deals that are acting as value added services for the customers. The U.K. has seen some of the best mobile phone deals and two of these very useful phone deals are the Pay as you Go and the Contract deal. What you need to do while going for a Pay as you Go deal is buy yourself a handset and a plan that suits your budget and your communication needs the best. The advantage that you can draw from this deal is that you can easily change your network provider if you are not satisfied with the services and the tariff rates. Moreover if you travel a lot then also you can change your provider and cut down on the roaming cost. But the major disadvantage with this deal is that while making a really important call you might just realize that you are short of credit and this might be a huge issue. The other deal, i.e. the Contract deal is that you get a handset along with a connection by some leading network provider. In this case you get a connection for which you dont need to pay the rental for a year. Along with this you can get the handset at a lower or at no cost. Plus there are offers like free minutes, free messages, lower tariff rates etc. but the main disadvantage with this deal is that once you sign the contract you can not change the network provider till the contract period is over. You do get some of the best network providers of U.K. along with the best mobile phone manufacturers. Edinburgh Stag Do Ideas

By Brett Daneilson While most folk will take any excuse for a party, there are some party reasons that have stood the test of time. Take the stag do, for example. It’s been around since at least early Greek times when the lads of Sparta saw to it that their about-to-be-married chums got a send-off that was worthy of Zeus. Today, stag parties have come a long way, but the idea is still the same – one last fling for the happy fellow before he puts on the ball and chain for life. While many folks are heading off to the continent for a stag weekend, there are some excellent reasons for choosing a city closer to home. You might, for instance, choose to do a stag weekend in Edinburgh, where you’ll have your choice of dozens of daytime activities and the same wide variety of nighttime fun to send your mate off to the altar in style. Here are just a few of the things that you might include in your Edinburgh stag do. Daytime Edinburgh Stag Weekend Fun A stag weekend in Edinburgh can accommodate the tastes of any group from the active to the scholarly. Few other cities offer a range of activities as wide as the traditional Scots city. From kayaking to orienteering, from Five a Side to quad runners there’s plenty of choice for a day of getting physical to gear up for the night. For the truly adventurous, there’s canyoning – the art of hurtling down a canyon flume with nothing but a wetsuit to protect you from the rocks below. Is there a more appropriate metaphor for the new life your guest of honor is about to enter? Edinburgh Stag Weekend by Night They say laughter can cure almost anything – and Edinburgh’s The Stand Comedy Club is sure to put that to proof. The popular club is often standing room only, so if you want to laugh yourself silly at up to five world class comedy acts in one night, you’d do best to get your tickets early. If clubbing is your thing, you won’t even have to leave The Stand – when the comedy’s done, a DJ takes the stage and the club transforms into one of the hottest nightclubs in the city. Just a Little Bit Of Naughty Stag Night Hijinks If you’re of a mind that no stag do is complete without a pretty girl shedding her clothing and giving the soon-to-be husband a wiggle and tweak, then you’ll want a tour of the clubs that hits Bottoms Up, the Fantasy Palace and Big Daddy O’s. The girls are first rate – but again, the clubs can be busy on a weekend night. If you’re only in town for a stag weekend in Edinburgh, you’ll do well to set up a tour in advance with a UK tour operator who can assure you tickets and entry.
